It’s upsetting to lose something
precious to you especially something like your wedding or
engagement ring. If you’re lucky enough to find it again though,
the excitement and happiness is indescribable. Spreading this type
of joy has led many individual metal detectorists as well as metal
detecting clubs and organizations to use their equipment and
expertise to help when irreplaceable items like these are lost. Here
are just a few stories of
wedding and engagement rings being found and returned to their
delighted owners with the help of metal detectors.
One of the most
famous stories of a lost wedding being found with a metal detector
comes from the United Kingdom. A young woman was upset with her
fiancé and threw her engagement ring into a nearby field. The
couple decided to make up and even get married as planned; but that
ring wasn’t found until 67 years later when their grandson found it
with his metal detector.
Another woman in England lost her
wedding ring while gardening. Although she and her husband searched
for the ring for days, he ended up buying her a new one. Then 41
years later there were some metal detectorists next door. On a lark,
the man asked the neighbors if they’d come search his garden for
his wife’s lost ring. The ring was found in just a few minutes
right where they’d been looking for it all along.
These services also help metal
detectorists place their finds with the owners. Like a California
woman who lost her ring at a beach. She contacted a local group of
metal detectorists who not only offered to look for her lost ring at
the beach, but, who also checked their finds from the last few days
for her wedding ring. A local detectorist had in fact found the ring
late that same day and he was able to happily return it to her.
As these stories show, if you’ve lost
your wedding or engagement ring, never give up and call a metal
detectorist! They’re happy to help and, in most situations, the
metal detector will find in a few moments, what could otherwise be
lost for a lifetime.
